Made by Groove Forte
We believe anyone who wants to play should be able to sit down at a great piano — today, for free, wherever they are.
Who we are
Groove Forte is a music channel and creative studio for musicians, music lovers and lifelong learners. On our YouTube channel we publish lessons, jazz and funk backing tracks, artist spotlights, improvisation training, technique breakdowns, ear training and song transcriptions — the material we wish we’d had when we started.
Play Piano Live is the toolbox that goes with it. It is owned and run by Groove Forte.
Why we built it
Most piano apps lock the good parts behind a subscription, or only let you learn the songs in their catalog. Most players also hit the same three walls: they don’t own a piano yet, they can’t find a tutorial for the song they love, and practicing alone gets boring.
So we built three free tools that knock those walls down:
- An online piano that sounds like a real grand and plays with any keyboard — computer, touch or MIDI.
- A transcription tool that turns recordings into notes, so every song can become a lesson.
- A practice mode that waits for you, scores you and lets you loop the hard bars.
What we promise
- Free. No paywalls, no trials, no song limits. If we ever add something optional, these tools stay free.
- Private. Your audio is processed on your own device. We don’t upload, store or sell your recordings.
- Honest. Our guides are written by musicians, checked against how the tools actually behave, and updated when things change.
- Fast. No bloated frameworks: the site is built to open quickly on any phone and work offline once installed.
Standing on great shoulders
The piano sound is the Salamander Grand Piano by Alexander Holm, and transcription uses Spotify’s open-source Basic Pitch model. Full details are on our credits page.
